Troy Davis Week of Action Now!

What to the Prisoner is the 4th of July?
Week of Action July 4th – 10th for TROY DAVIS!
Phone, Fax and Email Jam.

Troy Anthony Davis has been wrongfully incarcerated on death row for nearly 20 years. Troy has escaped execution 3
times and now his life is in imminent danger once again.

There has never been any physical evidence connecting Troy to the shooting of Officer Mark MacPhail in a Burger King
parking lot in Savannah, Ga., in 1989. The evidence against him comes down to nine witnesses presented by
prosecutors at Troy’s trial—and seven of them have since recanted their original testimony. These seven witnesses
testified at a hearing last year, many saying they had been coerced by the police to implicate Troy.

The judge who oversaw the hearings ruled against granting a new trial for Troy where evidence of his innocence could
finally be presented, although he did admit that the case against Troy was not "ironclad.

With the Supreme Court declining to hear the case, little stands in the way of Georgia setting an execution date for
Troy. However, the Georgia parole board has indicated that they will not execute someone when there is doubt about
guilt or innocence. Troy has been able to establish much more than simple doubt!

We need to act now to spread the word far and wide. We need to let the Georgia officials know that Troy Davis
deserves to live!

In his famous speech "What to the Slave is the 4th of July?", abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass rails
against those in power who claim to believe in freedom and justice, and yet who uphold slavery. Now it is our turn to
call for freedom and justice for wrongfully condemned prisoner Troy Davis and all those like him.

During the week of July 4th through the 10th, please contact Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and the Board of Pardons
and Parole via email, fax and phone to let them know you oppose this execution.

CEDP chapters and others who have collected petitions and clemency letters are encouraged to fax them in over the
course of the week. And please spread this action far and wide!
