African American Group Warned African Leaders Of Ebola Threat In 2013 Epidemic Could Have Been Stopped For $100 Million

CHICAGO, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The African American diaspora groupthepowerof1trillion.com warned African leaders and the world of the Ebola threat now engulfing the globe in 2013 (http://www.ireachcontent.com/news-releases/100-billion-initiative-targets-africa-208623341.html). According to numerous media reports in outlets such as Panafricanvisions.com, Biztechafrica, and Ventures-Africa the group's founder provided the urgently needed steps to avoid the catastrophe. Photo - http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20141012/151646 Records indicate that this information was provided directly to African leaders such as Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma in phone conversations and via email. Members of the group have followed outbreaks of Ebola since the 1970's, and hav repeatedly discussed the infrastructure issues associated with the virus in talks with a high ranking African National Congress (ANC) diplomat beginning in the 1980's. The group cites the major unaddressed root causes of the epidemic as being global warming, a major African land grab, and Ebola infected bats fleeing deforestation. Data from the group's research indicates that the entire epidemic could have been avoided for as little as $100 million. The World Bank estimates the epidemic will cost in excess of $32 billion through 2015, and the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) is forecasting 1.4 million cases by January. According to CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden, Ebola is the biggest global health threat since the AIDS epidemic, which has caused 36 million deaths worldwide. The diaspora group cites another threat that could greatly increase the Ebola infection and death toll geometrically if the outbreak is not contained immediately. According to numerous US media reports, four star Marine General John Kelly is warning that Ebola will lead to massive migration towards America from Central, South America, and from around the globe as masses of refugees seek to avoid the epidemic and obtain modern medical treatment. Almon describes the Ebola counter effort as, " Waiting for your house to catch on fire, and then installing smoke alarms in the middle of the inferno." The organization is calling on African Americans to join the African diaspora in contributing$45 million to buy vaccines and build necessary medical infrastructure. The group has launched the "1AgainstEbola.com" campaign which calls on African Americans to donate $1 dollar for each African American in order to halt the spread of Ebola. According to the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and the University of Georgia's Selig Center, this represents .4% of Black American annual charitable donations, and .004% of the $1.1 trillionAfrican Americans spend yearly. The group is also calling on the African millionaires, billionaires, and the Black National Medical Association to lead the way in the North American effort. 1AgainstEbola notes that Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and Jamaican-Canadian billionaire Michael Lee Chin have donated $20 million to the Ebola effort, and $10 million to build a hospital in Canadarespectively. The donations would be used to construct state of the art medical facilities and satelite emergency M.A.S.H. private sector units in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. This effort would be used for a model for the entire continent of Africa while stabalizing the economies of the effected nations with much needed revenue and employment. In a recent interview with PanAfricanvisions.com, the organiztions founder, Jerome Almondiscussed the long history between Sierra Leone, Liberia, and African Americans (http://panafricanvisions.com/2014/us-businessman-launches-1against-ebola-rally-african-american-support-ebola-fight/). This includes the true story behind the Debbie Allen produced and Steven Spielberg directed movie "Amistad," the fact that Liberia's capital was named after US President James Monroe, and both countries are populated with African Americans. The interview also takes note of the relationship between the African doctor Imhotep and the Greek physician and father of modern medicine Hippocrates.
